If your pet is experiencing the following symptoms, please utilize our Fast Track Triage system and always call ahead of your arrival so the veterinary team knows to expect you:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #ed1b2f;\">Difficulty breathing or persistent non-productive retching are considered \u201cRED\u201d \u2013 or true emergencies \u2013 on our Fast Track Triage system. We advise you to seek immediate veterinary care.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #f99d1c;\"> If you witnessed or strongly suspect your pet ingested something toxic or a foreign body causing illness, these are considered \u201cORANGE\u201d \u2013 or urgent cases \u2013 on our Fast Track Triage system. We recommend calling ASPCA Animal Poison Control at 888-426-4435 for help determining if your pet consumed a toxic amount and for guidance on what to do next. <\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #f99d1c;\">If your pet is persistently vomiting or is vomiting paired with diarrhea, these are also considered \u201cORANGE\u201d \u2013 or urgent cases \u2013 on our Fast Track Triage system. We recommend having your pet evaluated by your family veterinarian or local animal emergency hospital within 12 hours. <\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #ffcb05;\"> If your pet has experience two or fewer vomiting episodes, this is considered a \u201cYELLOW\u201d \u2013 or semi-urgent case \u2013 on our Fast Track Triage system. We recommend having your pet evaluated by your family veterinarian or local animal emergency hospital within 24 hours. <\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr style=\"width: 100%;\" size=\"3\" \/>\n<p>So, you\u2019re hanging out at home with your cat and then suddenly they start gagging! What do you do?<\/p>\n<p>Overall, there are many potential causes for gagging in a cat. Our team will ask about potential exposures, any symptoms that you were seeing prior to the gagging, and other changes at home. It can be helpful to take a video to show the doctor what you saw.<\/p>\n<p>Next, we will perform a complete exam. Often, this will require sedation to get a good look in the mouth and throat. We will look for evidence of inflammation from caustic exposure, foreign material, abscesses or infections, or even masses.<\/p>\n<p>Pending findings, we may recommend bloodwork and radiographs. For instance, ingestion of an irritant, such as plant material, may result in mild signs that will resolve with anti-nausea medication.
