Nelson proposed Earth Day as an opportunity for American citizens to speak out about their concerns regarding the environment. He hoped that people would speak loudly enough to impact government decisions. Twenty million people attended festivities across the nation on the first Earth Day! Earth Day has provided significant and lasting change for the environmental protection movement.<\/p>\n<p>Earth Day is a wonderful time for each of us to consider how we can be more environmentally friendly. We have all heard the phrase \u201c<strong>Reduce, Reuse, Recycle<\/strong>\u201d. These 3 R\u2019s help minimize pollution and conserve resources, energy,\u00a0and money. Here are some ways that you and your pet can reduce, reuse, and recycle!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8395 aligncenter\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/2.png\" alt=\"earth day, go green, recycle, reuse, reduce, pet, pet health, go green with your pets, Animal Emergency &amp; Referral Center of Minnesota\" width=\"800\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.aercmn.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/2.png 800w, https:\/\/www.aercmn.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/2-768x384.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Reduce<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Carry a reusable water bottle and bowl for your pet \u2013 avoid disposable products.<\/li>\n<li>Spay or neuter your pet. Help to minimize the pet population. Each pet has a significant impact on the environment.<\/li>\n<li>Get your next furry companion from a rescue or shelter.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid impulse purchases or buying products that your pet doesn\u2019t need. Instead, show your pet love by spending time with them!<\/li>\n<li>Buy local. This will minimize packing materials and fuel needed to deliver products directly to your home.<\/li>\n<li>Buy in bulk. This minimizes packaging and trips to the store.<\/li>\n<li>Leave no trace. Make sure to clean up your dog\u2019s poop!
